The focus of this day is to explore the culture, craft skills, religion and mythology of the Aztecs. These people collectively built an extensive empire, under the control of the Mexica, in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries
During the morning session the children will assume the role of apprentices in the market place. Here they will experience the hustle and bustle, the buying and selling and the exchange and barter of the market traders. All this will take place while learning some of the skills of the Aztec traders and craftsmen.
The afternoon session will focus on ritual, worship and celebration. The pupils will prepare the entertainments and ceremony that would form a regular part of the many celebrations that filled the Aztec calendar. This could be tailored to fit with work already covered in school or form a discrete element within the day.
We will provide all materials, artifacts and props for the day.
